Omaha Sen. Jeremy Nordquist is rushing to pass legislation to create a harmless sounding “Health Care Exchange,” trying to sell the plan as a way to give states more influence under Obama’s health care law.
But under the President’s law there really is no choice between state or federal control of the health care exchange. It is dishonest to argue that exchanges give more power to Nebraska; the truth is President Obama’s bill gives all the real power and decision making rights to federal bureaucrats in Washington, D.C.

These Exchanges are built on hundreds of pages of rules, regulations and mandates that have yet to be written; all coming from bureaucrats at the Department of Health and Human Services in Washington.
Legislators claim creating an Exchange in Nebraska will give the state flexibility. Yet, when even the simplest decisions – like the format of the website – need to be approved by Washington and the state accepted more than $5 million in federal dollars to create an Exchange; how much flexibility will Nebraska have?
